Foggy days are some of my favorite days for shooting. The photos always turn out so moody and have such a sense of hanging in time. The day that Justin proposed to Elisabeth did not seem like this kind of day. I left my house that morning under a stark sunny sky (eek) which is absolutely not my favorite weather to shoot in.
As I rode over the bridge I looked up and said “God could I just get one cloud? Just one? maybe over the sun for like 30 minutes???”
I laughed to myself thinking of all the times I tell clients “Pray for clouds!” after they talk about wanting a super sunny day for pictures. Major SIGH.
As I got over the bridge in Atlantic Beach I was met with a shocking sight. The ENTIRE beach was covered in a cloud. Fog. Everywhere. I just about cried. “THANK YOU!!!!” I said out loud. Crazy, right? Well, this was a big day. I was shooting a surprise proposal and it had to be perfect…and just then even the clouds had cooperated. Yay, world!
I had known Justin for years and when he called me and told me he was going to propose to Elisabeth, his super cute girlfriend, I was SO excited. We worked out a plan to get her in front of the camera without knowing what was going on. I called her and asked her if she would be interested in modeling for a shoot I was doing, she agreed, and after a few weeks of planning it was all set up. Justin and I came up with a que for the big moment….and it all unfolded like magic.
The best part? Well, besides the obvious, it was SO foggy that even though there where people all around we couldn’t see them.
It was as if for that moment they where the only two in the world….and it doesn’t get any better than that.
